This simple phrase has actively helped me cultivate presence, calmness, and gratitude amidst challenges. It serves as a reminder that when we find ourselves at the beginning of a new school year or facing a daunting personal task, grounding ourselves with intention can transform our approach to challenges. Navigating the physical difficulties of the race, I learned about the strength we often overlook within ourselves. Many educators, like myself, tend to underestimate their abilities, hesitating to take on hard things. I encourage educators to seek community support, whether through local groups or online forums, as we are capable of so much more when we lift each other up. I also discuss the importance of recognizing that forward progress—no matter how small—is still progress. During the race, I had to reconcile my desire to complete more loops with the reality of maintaining my well-being. I emphasize that just as we adjust our pacing in a race, we must also be flexible in our teaching practices, reminding ourselves to celebrate even the tiniest victories in our students' growth and development. By sharing these experiences, I'm inviting you—educators—to embrace challenges in your lives, both personal and professional. The lessons I gleaned from my run underscore the necessity of self-care and mindfulness in teaching.
